Ep. 5 - Give 'em Helle

Mayor Joe Helle has served in office since 2016 and is now running for the Ohio State House.

Mayor Joe Helle has served in office since 2016 and is now running for the Ohio State House.

Joe Helle is currently mayor of Oak Harbor, Ohio, a small town about 30 miles east of Toledo.  He recently came to national attention by confronting Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted on the steps of the Supreme Court during oral arguments in a case involving Ohio's strict voter purging laws.

Mayor Helle served in the U.S. Army from 2004 to 2011 with deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan.  When he returned home and tried to vote, he learned that he been removed from the Ohio voter rolls and wasn't entitled to exercise his fundamental right to vote.

In addition to his military service and role in the voter purging case, Mayor Helle has dedicated himself to local issues that simply never get enough attention.  After being frustrated by a street parking issue, he realized that his local community needed better leadership and ran for mayor.

Service is at the foundation of everything he does.  And now he's trying to serve in an even greater role as he enters the race for the Ohio House of Representatives in the OH-89.
